I was glad to wait. The Sony unit is everything it was promised to be and more. The load time is excellent. I had gone HD-DVD 2 years ago even though the picture quality is comparable to blu ray halloween 5 the revenge of michael myers load times were ridiculous. I would recomment this unit in regard to quality pricing for all concerned. This is a very nice player that works as described. Does fantastic blu ray with my 720p projector. You can really see the difference with the big screen. Netflix has been a problem so far, first night I was able to stream a movie, but haven t been able to halloween 5 the revenge of michael myers in since. Having to go through Sony has been the problem. Having to turn on and off player and ejecting disc manually has been the only mechanical inconvenience, but happy with player otherwise. Without reading the instructions I had it installed and playing content from Amazon video on demand in 15 minutes. I have the Samsung 50 inch 780p plasma and I think picture quality was superb. Great upscaling for regular DVDs. Quick and easy home menu to access all capabilties like internet content providers, photos, DVDs. Great performance with Netflix instant streaming. Cons: Not a Windows 7 compatible device?? No shuffle or random play for music files This is a constant frustration with Sony products. It s like Sony engineers have never heard of shuffle play. Regarding Netflix instant streaming. It s a simple set up using your computer and the player. Once set up, it s quick and easy to access your instant play list from the Blu-Ray player. Resolution and streaming quality are entirely dependent on the speed of your internet connection and how the movie was compressed. Some HD titles with adequate internet speed look fantastic. Netflix will test your internet connection speed before every movie is streamed. If the connection happens to be fast at that time, then Netflix will stream at a higher resolution. If your internet connection happens to be slow when Netflix tests it then resolution will be downscaled. Overall, the resolution is not typically HD quality and can even be somewhat worse than standard appearing pixelly, but it s still quite good most of the time and it s certainly worth it to me to have all those Netflix titles so quickly available. Also, Netflix typically makes only older titles available for streaming meaning movies that are, perhaps, 5 years old or older. However, there are some fairly new titles available.
